7 Natural Ways to Remineralize Teeth – Best & Worst Foods for Tooth Decay

by Andreea Laza

Looking for natural ways to remineralize teeth? Learn how to remineralize teeth with herbs, natural foods and medicine.

Tooth remineralization is the process of restoring essential minerals like calcium and phosphorus to your enamel, making it stronger and more resistant to decay. While fluoride is commonly promoted for this purpose, what most people don’t know is that fluoride is an industrialized synthetic byproduct from the aluminum processing industry. In other words, fluoride is a neurotoxin that does not help with tooth remineralization of any kind, instead, it can lead to serious health problems in time.

However, there are natural remedies that can remineralize teeth without synthetic chemicals. Here are 15 natural ways to remineralize your teeth and maintain a healthy smile with herbs, and natural foods that are powerful natural medicines. But first, let’s see why our teeth demineralize and decay so fast.

The Truth about Teeth Demineralization and Decay

According to best-selling intuitive healer Anthony Williams, the true cause of teeth decay and demineralization is low hydrochloric acid in the stomach, which causes oral bacteria to proliferate and attach teeth enamel. “When the stomach loses most of its hydrochloric acid, toxic acids takeover and while you are sleeping, these bad acids come up from the stomach and destroy the gums, causing them to recede.” According to him, one of the best ways to restore hydrochloric acid is to drink 16oz of straight celery juice daily on an empty stomach.

The bad news is that most people have low hydrochloric acid due to the foods we eat, stress, and pollution. Hence, tooth decay is not as much affected by poor dental hygiene, but is caused by compromised gut and intestinal health. In addition to low hydrochloric acid, when the body is unable to break down the food that we eat, it rots in the gut. This rotting food produces ammonia which rises into the mouth and eats away at the gums and teeth.

However, there are natural ways to remineralize teeth and prevent tooth decay with the help of herbs, natural medicine, and supplements. Let’s get to them.

7 Natural Ways to Remineralize Teeth

1. Herbal Teas for Teeth Health

Red clover, horsetail, nettle, celandine, and peppermint teas are some of the best natural ways to remineralize teeth and prevent tooth decay. They help replenish the teeth with much-needed trace minerals such as calcium, silica, iron, magnesium, and others, all you need to rebuild tooth enamel and prevent further tooth decay. Plus, they help flush out toxins and pathogens from the body at the same time. You can use these herbs in combinations or alone, but the most powerful way is in blends.

  • Red Clover – is rich in calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus which are key minerals for strong teeth. It also contains isoflavones that may help balance oral pH and prevent demineralization. Try drinking red clover tea or using it as a mouth rinse.
  • Horsetail – is one of the best plant sources of silica, a mineral that helps your body absorb calcium more effectively. It is actually the precursor of MSM, the natural collagen. Drinking horsetail tea or using a diluted mouth rinse may support enamel strength.
  • Nettle – is a powerhouse of minerals, including silica, magnesium, and calcium, which are crucial for strong teeth. In addition to nettle tea, you can make and drink fresh nettle juice, or add fresh nettle to smoothies to help with teeth remineralization.
  • Celandine – supports tooth remineralization due to its alkaloids and minerals, which help fight bacteria, reduce inflammation, support enamel health, and natural tooth healing. It also promotes oral healing and may aid in balancing pH for better mineral absorption.
  • Peppermint – fights harmful bacteria, reduces inflammation, and freshens breath. Its menthol content supports oral health by preventing plaque buildup. In addition to drinking peppermint tea after meals, you can add a couple of drops of peppermint essential oil to your natural mouth rinse or add them to homemade toothpaste for remineralization benefits.

To make the tea, steep 1 tsp of dried herb in one cup of boiling water for 10-15 minutes, strain and drink warm. Optionally, sweated with raw honey. Drink 1-2 cups daily. You can also use lukewarm tea instead of conventional (toxic) mouth rinse.

2. Propolis

Propolis helps remineralize teeth by directly neutralizing the bacteria in the mouth that attack tooth enamel. In addition to this, propolis is successfully used to treat a variety of oral issues, ranging from recurring canker sores, glossitis, recurrent cold sores, candidiasis, chronic peripheral periodontitis, stomatitis following tonsillectomy, to ulcerative or ulceronecrotic stomatitis.

For remineralizing teeth, apply a few drops of diluted propolis extract (mixed with a little comfrey or plantain tea) onto the gums two to three times a week using a dropper. At the start of the treatment, it’s recommended to avoid meat and caffeine for about two weeks. On the days when propolis isn’t applied, you can rinse your mouth with clay water (do not swallow). We recommend a non-alcoholic propolis extract.

3. Cloves

Cloves are a powerful natural remedy for oral health and can aid in teeth remineralization by reducing harmful bacteria, decreasing inflammation, and creating an environment that supports enamel repair. Their active compound, eugenol, has strong antimicrobial and analgesic properties, which help protect teeth from decay and support overall dental health.

One of the best ways to use cloves for remineralization is by making a clove oil mouth rinse. Simply mix 2-3 drops of clove essential oil with a tablespoon of coconut oil or water and swish it around your mouth for 1–2 minutes before spitting it out. This helps eliminate bacteria and alkalize the mouth, promoting mineral absorption. It is also amazing for toothache.

A more intensive remineralization method is a clove and calcium mouth pack. Mixing clove powder with calcium carbonate and a little water to form a paste, then applying it to the teeth for 5–10 minutes, can help deliver minerals directly to the enamel, aiding in its repair. Do not swallow. If you want to make your own natural mouthwash, read the article here.

4. Colloidal Silver

Similarly to propolis, colloidal silver helps fight against bacterial issues reducing the risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and plaque buildup, and is overall excellent support for the gums and teeth. By killing bad bacteria without disrupting healthy oral flora, colloidal silver can contribute to a balanced mouth environment, which supports enamel demineralization.

Colloidal silver can be used as a complementary treatment along with other remineralizing practices mentioned in this article. Use it to spray your teeth with it daily after brushing and rinsing, instead of conventional mouth spray. While it doesn’t directly remineralize enamel, it helps maintain an environment in your mouth that supports remineralization.

5. Spirulina & Kelp

According to Medical Medium, spirulina is an incredible supplement that helps pull heavy metals like mercury out of the intestinal tract, while also remineralizing teeth and gums. It will not pull mercury out of any silver fillings you might have, it will only draw out the mercury that’s been creating havoc in your system for years.

In addition to this algae such as spirulina, dulse, and kelp have a high content of natural iodine and trace minerals like sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium that can help rebuild tooth enamel and prevent further tooth decay.

Kelp can be taken as a decoction by using one part kelp to ten parts water. Let it soak for 4-5 hours, then boil and strain it. Alternatively, it can be consumed in capsule form, with no more than 5 grams per day, taken during meals. Spirulina powder (from Hawaii) is perfect for adding to smoothies, especially a heavy metal detox smoothie. This is not only great for dental health, but also for the overall health of your body.

6. Charcoal and Baking Soda Toothpaste

This simple tooth remineralization remedy has been successfully used by individuals, so we had to share it with you. Combine 20 g of activated charcoal (preferably from oak wood) and 20 g of powdered eggshells (from fertilized eggs). Optionally, you can use hydroxyapatite powder of calcium carbonate instead of eggshell powder, but the original recipe uses powdered eggshells.

Add 10 g of aluminum-free baking soda and mix well. Store the mixture in a small jar. Brush your teeth with this powder every morning and evening. Do not swallow! It may feel unpleasant, but it’s worth it. After brushing, rinse your mouth with warm water mixed with a pinch of coarse sea salt, or use the mouth rinse below. 7. Hydrogen Peroxide & Aloe Vera Mouth Rinse

Hydrogen peroxide is a natural antiseptic that helps control bacteria responsible for enamel erosion due to its oxygen content, while aloe vera soothes gums, reduces plaque, and supports oral healing.

To make this natural mouth rinse, combine 1 tablespoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 2 tablespoons of pure aloe vera juice, and ½ cup of distilled water in a glass container. For added benefits, you can include 2–3 drops of peppermint or clove essential oil to enhance the antibacterial properties and improve the taste. Swish 1–2 tablespoons of this rinse in your mouth for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then spit it out and rinse with plain water. This can be done once or twice daily for at least 2 weeks to see results.

This rinse works by eliminating bacteria that contribute to demineralization, reducing gum inflammation, and maintaining a balanced pH in the mouth, which is crucial for enamel repair. As a precaution, always use food-grade hydrogen peroxide, avoid swallowing the rinse, and discontinue use if you experience sensitivity or irritation.

Best Foods for Teeth Remineralization

  • Fruit – fruit is healing for tooth problems, as they contain components that kill off mouth bacteria, and not feed it. The sugar from fruit is not corrosive compared to processed beet sugar and does not destroy tooth enamel, so don’t mistake fruit for sugar, as they are the opposite when it comes to teeth demineralization.
  • Leafy Greens – spinach, parsley, chives, and other leafy greens support teeth health due to their high content of minerals.
  • Vegetables – radishes, celery, onions, scallions, cucumbers, ginger, and garlic can all support your oral health as well.
  • Aloe vera – helps prevent gum recession and tooth decay. Follow Medical Medium’s recipe on how to prepare aloe water and the incredible benefits of adding this to your diet.
  • Celery Juice – helps raise your hydrochloric acid while protecting the teeth and gums.
  • Papaya – helps fight back against ammonia in the gut and raises hydrochloric acid.
  • Apples – and highly alkaline and contain critical vitamins and minerals and are ideal for mineral deficiencies and gut health, due to their pectin content, which prevents the putrefaction of protein in the digestive tract.
  • Barley Grass Juice Powder – is a powerful heavy metal detox remedy that works incredibly well alongside spirulina, to help remove toxins and help with teeth demineralization.
  • Nettle – is loaded with silica, a key mineral for healthy teeth. Drink 1-2 glasses of nettle juice per day between meals. Typically, a remineralization cure with nettle juice lasts for two weeks.
  • Lemon and Citrus Fruits – contain calcium and become alkaline when coming in contact with saliva, in opposition to vinegar. According to Medical Medium, “A lemon tree sends its roots deep into the Earth, grabbing onto alkaline-rich minerals such as calcium.”. While most dentists blame lemon juice for tooth decay, it’s not lemon juice destroying tooth enamel, as no one is drinking enough lemon juice on a regular basis for this to happen. Instead, most people are gulping down loads of soda drinks.
  • Beet Juice – is highly beneficial for teeth remineralization due to its high concentration of soluble calcium, which aids in remineralization, especially in cases of demineralization. It is particularly useful for osteoporosis, spasmophilia, and conditions related to mineral loss. Consuming 300-500 ml per day can support overall health, including dental demineralization. For a more pleasant taste, it can be mixed with a little fresh lemon juice.
  • Carrot Leaf – Dried and finely chopped carrot leaves, when added to vegetable soup (about 5-6 tablespoons per liter), are excellent for digestion and rich in easily assimilable minerals that support dental health.
  • Nuts and Seeds – raw and unsalted nuts and seeds like sesame seeds, tahini, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds are loaded with minerals like calcium and magnesium which are necessary for teeth demineralization.

Foods That Demineralize Teeth

Caffeine in all its forms (coffee, green tea, black tea, cacao, chocolate, guarana, mate, matcha, energizer drinks, etc) is the ultimate teeth destroyer, as it’s highly acidic and it chips away at the tooth enamel. Not only that, it is also corrosive to the stomach and intestines and depletes natural trace minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and others that make our teeth strong and healthy.

As a natural alternative that doesn’t demineralize teeth, replace your morning cup with a large glass of lemon water at room temperature sweetened with some raw honey. This drink will hydrate you, make you go, and also give you energy and clarity similar to what coffee does, but with no side effects. Other healthy alternatives to coffee are dandelion root coffee, chicory root coffee, rooibos tea, carob coffee, chaga, or mushroom blends.

Other foods that destroy tooth enamel and demineralize teeth:

  • vinegar in all its forms (not lemon water or citrus fruit)
  • pickled foods in vinegar
  • soda drinks
  • chocolate
  • junk food/ processed foods
