by Andreea Laza

If you are looking for simple and effective natural treatments for urinary tract infections, continue reading this article and find out what they are. But first.

Urinary tract infections or UTIs are some of the most common health problems, mainly affecting women. According to the National Library of Medicine, 50-60% of adult women suffer from this type of infection at least once in their lifetime. Usually, most UTIs affect the lower part of the urinary system, ie the bladder and urethra. When left untreated, these infections can reach the kidneys and lead to pyelonephritis. Don’t get too alarmed though, as most UTIs are easily treatable if you take good care of yourself. Below are the best natural treatments for urinary tract infections from parts of Eastern Europe.

8 Best Natural Treatments for UTIs

1. Pine Cones Treatment for Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

Pine cones sitz baths are infallible when it comes to various urinary infections and they even respiratory infections and other sorts. This is one of the most effective natural treatments for urinary tract infections, indeed. Here is how to prepare and use this traditional remedy for UTIs.

  • Boil a small bucket full of pine cones into a big pot of water for 15 minutes (make sure that the cones are all covered with water).
  • Strain and pour the decoction into a small bathtub or a washing basin.
  • Leave to slightly cool down, then sit down in the basin for about 30 minutes and make sure the water reaches the genital area.

If the water has turned too cold, add more of the hot decoction in the bathtub. Immediately after finishing the sitz bath get in bed and stay as warm as possible. 2. Horsetail Baths for Urinary Tract Infection

Horsetail baths are amongst the best natural treatments for urinary tract infections. Fill up 1/3 of a 5-10 liters pot with fresh horsetail plant. Fill the rest of the pot with water. Cover the pot with a lid and leave to macerate overnight. The next day, around 17-18 o’clock put the pot over the fire. After it has boiled for about 10 minutes add 300 g of one of the following medicinal herbs of your choosing into the pot: yarrow, marigold, thyme, wormwood, or St. John’s wort.

Simmer for another 5-7 minutes and then remove the pot from the fire and put a lid on it and leave for 15 minutes. While boiling, the plants start floating, hence use a wooden spoon to push them down every now and then. Using the same wooden spoon, remove the herbs from the pot and put them on a fluffy cotton gauze, the size of a baby’s diaper. Put the gauze in a large bowl, as they are soaked in the decoction.

Pour the decoction from the large pot into a small washing basin. Add cold water over to lower the temperature, so it’s bearable for bathing. The hotter the water, the more powerful the healing effect the remedy will have. As simple as it sounds, this herbal bath is one of the best natural treatments for urinary tract infections.

Bathing Time

  • Sit down in the basin, so that the water covers your kidney area but not your heart.
  • While bathing, place the cotton gauze with herbs on your abdominal area.
  • Soak the sheet in the hot water from now and then so that the herbs are always kept warm.
  • Move the herbal poultice from your abdomen to the stomach area, liver, over the genital organs, and pancreas.

Bathe for around 40 minutes, then get out and wash your feet with plain water (don’t use soap). Take on a pair of socks without whipping your feet and get on your pajamas, and a thick bathrobe over the pajama to start sweating. Get directly into bed.

While laying in bed drink 2 cups of hot linden tea with a bit of honey and lemon. Don’t uncover yourself, only if you cannot breathe. Use a towel to wipe the sweat off your neck, but don’t wipe off the sweat from your body. Don’t get out of bed not even to pee. After 1 hour of sitting tucked in bed, you can get out, wipe clean, put on new cotton pajamas, and go to bed. Resume the horsetail bath every other day and do 10 baths in total. Pause for 2 weeks and then resume the remedy if needed. This is one of the most effective natural treatments for urinary tract infections.

Juice 3 lemons, add some water to dilute the juice, and split it into 3 portions. Have one portion before the main meals.

Boost the healing properties of the fresh juice remedy with this powerful herbal tea. Steep 2 tsp of yarrow and 2 tsp of common lady’s mantle in 1 cup of hot water. 4. Wild Thyme Remedy for UTI

Also known as Thymus vulgaris, wild thyme is one of the best natural antibiotics when used as thyme essential oil, but it is also effective as oil infusion. This is why this simple herb is one of the best natural treatments for urinary tract infections. Prepare the wild thyme-infused oil as follows. Cover the fresh chopped wild thyme herb with cold-pressed sunflower or olive oil. Seal the jar and after a few days add a little bit of alcohol to it, and simmer the oil on a double boiler. Strain the infused oil, and pour it into an amber glass bottle with a dropper.

Add a few wild thyme oil drops into the diuretic teas that you drink throughout the day. The diuretic teas that we recommend for UTIs are calamus root, greater celandine, and/or hellebore (Helleborus sp). This is one of the best natural treatments for urinary tract infections.

5. Thyme Oil and Honey Remedy for UTI

If you want to try an even more simple remedy with thyme, try the thyme essential oil remedy. Have three drops of thyme essential oil into one tablespoon of raw honey, 3 times a day before meals on an empty stomach. You can use plain water instead of honey. Alongside the cabbage leaf poultices, take horsetail sitz baths (38°C maximum) – see remedy above. Also, drink a herbal blend tea of wild thyme, calendula, dandelion, and yarrow. In combination with pine resin tincture, juniper tincture is even more powerful.

Add 1 tsp of juniper tincture and another tsp of pine resin tincture into 1/2 cup of water and take it 3 times a day on an empty stomach for 14 days. Pause for 7 days and resume if needed. Alongside, do a clay cure. This is one of the most amazing natural treatments for urinary tract infections.
