Looking for a home remedy for irritated eyes?

Although we tend to take our eyesight for granted, there are times when the eyes become irritated or really tired and it’s time to take care of them properly.

7 Home Remedies for Irritated Eyes

1. Eyebright, the Home Remedy for Irritated Eyes

For those of you who didn’t yet know, eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis) is highly indicated in conditions related to eyesight, such as mild eye inflammations, eye redness and even conjunctivitis. Well-renown priest and founders of the naturopathic medicine movement, Sebastian Kneipp has left for posterity some simple yet efficient remedies using eyebright.

We will present to you a couple of natural remedies using eyebright, the home remedy for irritated eyes and eyesight problems. Let’s begin with the external use of this wonderful plant.

You may use both dried or fresh eyebright leaves, as you wish, as well as eyebright powder obtained from the dried plant.

  • Make an infusion using a teaspoon of this plant in ½ cup of hot water.
  • Let the infusion cool down and then wash the eyes 2-3 times per day.
  • Or submerge your eyes in a bowl of this tea.
  • You may also prepare eye compresses soaked in eyebright tea that you need to let take action for at least 10 minutes.
  • Repeat the procedure as many times as it takes.

The eyes will clean thoroughly, while the eyesight will better.

2. Kneipp’s Eyebright Powder, the Remedy for Irritated Eyes

If you wish to know how to use eyebright powder this is another herbal cure Kneipp used to use on his sick patients.

  • Have one pinch of eyebright powder a day with soup or water.

Due to the bitterness of this plant it is an amazing and simple bitter for the stomach, regulating digestion and activating the gastric juices. Don’t have more than a pinch of eyebright powder per day!

Besides being an amazing home remedy for irritated eyes if used externally, eyebright may also act as an amazing natural cure for stomach and digestive disorders if used internally, as powder. Hopefully you’ve learned something new about a common plant, based on the life experience of naturopathic doctor Sebastian Kneipp.
