Pine Needle Salve Recipe for Pain Relief
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons of pine needles roughly chopped
- 1 tablespoon of dried lavender flowers
- 100 g of ghee (clarified butter)
- 10 drops of dwarf pine essential oil (Pinus mugo)
- 10 drops of lavender essential oil
- 10 drops of marjoram essential oil
- 10 drops rosemary essential oil
Preparation
Gently melt the clarified butter in a bowl on a double boiler, then add the pine needles and the lavender flowers, cover the bowl with a lid and leave aside for 30 minutes. Strain through a sieve to remove the pine needles and lavender, and leave aside to further cool down. After it has cooled a little, add the essential oils, and mix carefully. Pour the salve into small glass jars, wait for it to harden, and close the lids tightly. The pain relief salve is ready for use.
How to Use
The pine needle salve acts against muscle pain, neuralgia, and pain caused by rheumatism or sciatica (lower back pain). Gently rub it in the sore areas whenever you feel pain, even multiple times a day. For chronic pain, use the sale for a longer period of time.
If you don’t have ghee butter, you can replace it with olive oil and beeswax (100 ml of olive oil and 10 g of beeswax).

Can the needles of a mugo pine be used. I can’t find the essential oil for this.
Hi, Lesley! Yes, you can use the pine needles of a mugo pine instead of the essential oil, but ideally, the essential oil works best. Much health!
Does it matter what type of pine trees?
Hi Diana! It doesn’t matter what kind of pine tree, but if you want to make sure, there are a few pine trees that are known for their therapeutic properties, that you can check here: https://www.mynaturaltreatment.com/health-benefits-of-pine-needles-uses/#What_Pine_Trees_Are_Good_for_Pine_Needle_Tea Just make sure it’s pine and not other similar tree. Thank you for stopping by, much health!
Could you use coconut oil?
Hi Terry! Yes you can use a good quality virgin coconut oil (solid at room temperature) instead of the ghee, but this might give a little bit of a soften consistency to the salve. To make it more solid you can use half coconut oil and half shea butter and then I’m sure the consistency will turn ok. Much health!
