For this remedy, you will need the following dried herbs and berries: chicory root, wild thyme, yarrow, chamomile, birch leaf, crushed rosehips, mint, walnut leaf, hawthorn berries, elderflowers, oak leaf, and linden flowers.

Preparation

  1. Put 3-4 tablespoons of each of the herbs/berries above in a small cotton bag (20*30 cm).
  2. Fill an 8-10 liters pot halfway up with water and bring to a boil.
  3. When the water has started to simmer put the herbal cotton bag into the water.
  4. Continue simmering for 1 minute and then turn the heat off.

How to Use

After 10 minutes you can start the inhalation. Use a towel to cover your head. Inhale alternatively through your nose and through your mouth. After the inhalation is done, put the pot aside and stay for another 10 minutes with the towel over your head. Do one inhalation in the morning, and another one in the evening (two a day). Twenty minutes later, put 4-5 drops of sea buckthorn oil into each nostril. Sea buckthorn oil is one of nature’s wonders, known for its amazing property to help regenerate tissue. This is why, in the case of nasal septum perforation, sea buckthorn oil is perhaps the best remedy out there.

Hi Andreea! I am having a lot of trouble finding brotherwort and crushed dog rose berries. Is there any substitution for this or can you recommend where I could find it? Also, do you personally know anyone who has had success with this treatment? I am hoping to help a friend so they don’t have to go through another surgery. Thank you!!

Hello! You can find dog rose berries, also known as rose hip (rosa canina) on eBay, and brotherwort (Mongolian thyme) on AliExpress as I can see. There are people who have healed successfully with these natural remedies, so they are worth trying. I hope the same for your friend!

Hi, Nicole! I brotherwort is also knwon as wild thyme, you can find this plant dried and cut online. As far as the dog rose berries (or rose hip berries), where I am from, they grow in the wild and we usually gather them in the early autumn. However, you can find dried dog rose berries online, I think I saw them on Amazon. The remedy for nasal septum perforation is from a local magazine and it has been recommended by someone who has used it successfully. However, I cannot say that it will definitely help you or others, since we are not medical professionals, but a team of people passionate about herbal remedies and alternative medicine that has been passed on from generation to generation by word of mouth. I hope this helped! 🙂

I tried this treatment and was monitoring my septum perforation with an endoscope I bought online. Unfortunately, after one week, it got larger!! The sea buckthorn oil creates a strong burning sensation in your sinuses, to the point that after a few days you feel that your sinuses are constantly irritated. And it must be damaging the mucosa. Do NOT do this!! Maybe if it’s diluted it might work but I am not experimenting any more.

Hi, Maria! Thank you for your feedback, I am really sorry to hear that this remedy has not worked out for you the way you wanted it. Did you also do the herbal inhallations? Could you possibly corelate it to something else that you did? Again, I am really sorry to hear this, much health!

I did do the herbal inhalations too. One has to be careful with those too because with the timing listed, it’s easy to overheat and dry out the sinuses. So I ended up adjusting the timing. I was not doing anything else about my nose and the perforation was stable before. So it is this treatment that did it.
I am a big fan of herbal remedies usually but they are not harmless. And when not enough studies are done, you are taking a risk.
