White daffodil (Narcissus poeticus) is one of the most beautiful spring flowers mostly known for its amazing perfume, but few people know that white daffodil is also a medicinal plant. The bulbs of the white daffodil are considered poisonous, even deadly in doses over 10 g, and have been once used by the village healers to “open” the womb and flush out “evil from the stomach” through vomiting. These days, only the white daffodil petals are still used as medicine, as you will see by the end of this article. Before we show you how to make white daffodil tea, here is how to harvest its petals and dry them for later use.

How to Harvest White Daffodil

White daffodil petals are practically non-toxic and have been traditionally used in the Balkans for chest problems and heart palpitations (tachycardia), due to their sedative, emollient, disinfectant, and lung antiseptic properties. To harvest the white daffodil petals, collect them (without the receptacle) and dry them in a thin layer in a very dry place (they quickly lose their medicinal properties when wet). White daffodil leaves can be harvested and dried the same way. The most popular way to use white daffodil petals as medicine is as tea. Let’s see how to prepare and use the healing white daffodil tea.

How to Make White Daffodil Tea

To make the white daffodil tea, you need to prepare a cold maceration first that you later combine with a warm infusion to make a powerful combined tea. Soak 1/2 handful of freshly picked white daffodil petals and leaves or 2 tsp of dried ones in 1 cup of water at room temperature for 2-3 hours. Strain the cold maceration and set aside. Put the used plant in a cup of boiling water and steep for 20 minutes. Strain (the flowers are thrown away, do not use twice) the hot infusion and combine it with the cold maceration. Drink 2-3 cups of white daffodil tea to enjoy its amazing emollient, disinfectant, and lung antiseptic properties.

The second, and more simple way to prepare white daffodil tea is the following. Steep half a handful of fresh daffodil petals or 2 teaspoons of dried ones in 250 ml (1 cup) of boiling water. Cover for 10 minutes and the daffodil infusion is done. The dosage is 2 cups a day. To boost the medicinal properties of this infusion, you can combine it with other medicinal herbs (equal parts), depending on the purpose. This tea is especially effective for tachycardia, asthma, stress, and anxiety.
