Hairsprays or hair mousses help create some hold and definition to hair strands and give unruly curls some control. However, most (basically all) conventional hairsprays contain harmful substances that can irritate the eyes, skin, and nasal passages. Even more, they accumulate in the body, buildup toxicity, and create the perfect environment for disease. They are toxic, like most “modern” pricey cosmetic products. The good news is that all conventional cosmetics can be replaced with natural versions, and while last time we showed you how to make shampoo at home, here is how to make hairspray at home, 100% natural and no BS. Let’s get to the recipe.

How to Make Hairspray at Home Naturally

For this natural hairspray recipe, you only need three simple ingredients:

  • 1 organic lemon
  • 450 ml (2 cups) of water
  • 1 tbsp vodka

Preparation

Chop the entire lemon as finely as possible, and put it into a saucepan together with the water. Bring to a boil and when it starts boiling, turn the heat to a minimum and continue to simmer until the water content is reduced by half. Allow to cool, then strain. Pour the into a hair spray bottle, add the vodka, and shake to mix well. The vodka acts as a preservative, making the natural hairspray lake last 4 weeks. When applied to the hair, it helps retain its suppleness and the hairstyle lasts for longer.

Tips

  • If your hair is very dry and dull, you can replace the lemon with an organic orange instead and prepare the hairspray the same way.
  • For long hair, prepare a different hairspray with a rosemary infusion (1 teaspoon of the plant, with the same amount of water). Simmer for 10 minutes, strain, and allow to cool down before using.

And this is how to make hairspray at home, all-natural and “human-friendly”. If you enjoyed this recipe, try some of our other natural cosmetics recipes below, and share this recipe on social media. Stay beautiful, naturally!
