How to Make Bay Leaf Oil

Grind or crush 10 g of dried bay leaves or 30 g of fresh leaves and mix with 1 cup of unrefined vegetable oil (flaxseed or sunflower seed oil), or with organic or homemade butter (use melted butter) in a glass jar. Seal the jar and allow the bay leaves to soak in the fat for a week, in a shaded place. Strain the bay leaf oil through a fine piece of gauze or cloth, and pour it into amber glass bottles. Store the bay leaf oil in a dark and cool place.

A quicker way to make bay leaf oil at home is to put 90 finely crushed dried bay leaves in a glass bowl and pour 500 ml of unrefined vegetable oil on top. Put a lid on top and put the glass bowl on a double boiler to steam and thus infuse for 3 hours. Turn the heat to a minimum and keep an eye so the water in the larger pot does not evaporate. Then strain, and store the same way.

How to Use Bay Leaf Oil

Bay leaf oil is a very good topical remedy for pain caused by arthritis, paralysis, muscle cramps, rheumatic pain, sprains, and blows/wounds. Here is how it is used. Heat the affected using a hair blower for a couple of minutes, then apply iodine. Now apply a laurel bay leaf oil compress and leave it on for 2 hours, or rub the area with slightly heated bay leaf oil for 10 minutes. This procedure reduces pain. Bay leaf oil can also be used internally for chronic cholecystitis, in which case, take adult dose is 10-15 drops of bay leaf oil with water or herbal tea, 2-3 times a day, 30 minutes before meals.
