How to Harvest Celandine to Make Celandine Juice

Greater celandine (Chelidonium majus) can be harvested from the beginning of May, or the end of April, when it starts to bloom, until the end of November. Only harvest it when it has buds or flowers, and not when it already has seed pods. Harvesting is done in sunny weather, as harvesting on rainy days or after rain turns the plant brown, which lessens its active principles.

  • To avoid staining your hands, wear a pair of gloves when cutting the aerial parts (leaves, stems, and flowers) of the celandine. Do not touch your eyes, mouth, or other sensitive areas, with your hands, as celandine may be very irritating. Juice the plant immediately after harvesting to enjoy the most health benefits.

How to Juice Celandine

Juice the fresh celandine leaves and stems using a slow juicer, and use the juice right away or keep it for a maximum of 24 hours in the refrigerator (at 4°C/39°F). For maximum effectiveness, the celandine sap/juice must be applied several times to the same area of the skin every few minutes, right after the previously applied sap has dried. If the problem is minor and does not require a lot of celandine juice, simply break the fresh stem of the plant and smear the orange sap onto the affected area the same way. You can use one stem until it has no sap left, then pick another one.

As a rule, celandine sap/juice is used topically, as when it’s used internally it has a much higher toxic potential than dried celandine and is therefore very difficult and risky to use. For the internal use of celandine sap/juice, please consult a specialist.

6 Amazing Health Uses of Celandine Sap

1. Celandine for Warts

Warts disappear if they are smeared daily with fresh celandine sap. Apply the celandine sap to the warts, several successive times, at half a minute intervals, in the morning and in the evening. Do not wash the sap off after application, instead leave it to dry on the skin for more powerful results. Gradually, the warts change color, reduce in size and then fall off. Usually, after 2-6 weeks of daily applications, the warts disappear. After the warts have fallen off, continue applying celandine sap for at least 5-7 more days. The remedy has also proven its effectiveness in treating genital warts.

4. Celandine for Ovarian Cysts

Another one of the most notable health uses of celandine sap is for cysts, especially ovarian cysts. 6. Celandine for Women’s Problems

This is a remedy with miraculous results in the treatment of excessive hair growth (hirsutism), amenorrhea and dysmenorrhea, sexual development disorders in women, and skin conditions. It is recommended for disorders related to the activity of the gonads and the adrenal cortex. This is the only internal celandine sap uses that we know of. Make a combination of fresh juices from the following plants:

  • Apio leaves and stems (Apium graveolens) – 20 ml;
  • Dill stems (Anethum graveolens) – 20 ml;
  • Celandine (Chelidonium majus) – 2 ml;
  • Lady’s mantle (Alchemilla vulgaris) – 10 ml (fresh stems picked in the morning on the dew).

To make the apio, dill, and lady’s mantle juices, blend them in a food processor and then squeeze the juices out through a piece of cheesecloth. For an easier extraction, you can add a little water to the food processor, but then double quantities of plants, as water dilutes the juices. Mix the exact amounts mentioned to make a day’s serving of juice. You can keep the fresh juice in the refrigerator for a maximum of 24 hours before using it.

Drink half of the amount in the morning, on an empty stomach, and the other half in the evening, before dinner (the last meal should be later than 7 p.m.). Start the juicing 48 hours before the full moon, and continue for 21 days. During and after juicing, do not consume alcohol, meat, meat preparations, processed food, or food additives, and do not smoke. Instead have plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Do not exceed the recommended doses, as fresh celandine is toxic! Namely, a daily dose of 20-30 grams of ingested celandine leads to severe intoxication, and 50-60 grams can lead to fatal intoxication. For internal treatments with fresh celandine sap or plant, please consult a specialist.
