How Is Caraway Essential Oil Made
Caraway essential oil is extracted typically by steam distillation and, less commonly, through alcohol extraction. The food-grade kind is made through steam distillation without any added ingredients, except for the caraway seeds. When buying caraway essential oil for internal use, make sure it is labeled food grade. The regular doses are:
- adults – 2–6 drops, three times per day;
- children (6 to 16 yo) – 1–3 drops, 2–3 times per day;
- children (1 to 6 yo) – less than one drop per day, up to a maximum of 0.02 ml daily.
Caraway essential oil is also included in various children’s syrups and teas with calming effects.

How To Use Caraway Essential Oil as Medicine
- Asthma, allergic asthma, and chronic bronchitis – add a few drops of caraway essential oil into a cup of combined caraway seed infusion (recipe here).
- Fungal infections (adjuvant) – 2–5 drops of caraway essential oil three times daily for 14 days, followed by a 10-day break. This remedy is also recommended as an adjuvant for bacterial infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
- Muscle spasms – half-cup (100 ml) of combined caraway seed tea three times per day to which you add two drops of caraway essential oil to each dose of tea to enhance its antispasmodic effects. This treatment is recommended for both muscles we can control (such as those in the arms, legs, and eyelids) as well as those we cannot control voluntarily, for hiccups, spasmodic cough, and even asthma.
- Intestinal worms (adjuvant) – 2–5 drops of caraway essential oil three times daily in 21-day courses, followed by a 21-day break.
