How to Harvest Sea Buckthorn Berries
The harvesting time for sea buckthorns (Hippophae rhamnoides) is in September-October, when the berries are well-ripe, meaning that the active principles are at their peak. Sea buckthorn is harvested when the berries are yellow-orange in color, soft/elastic to the touch, and taste sour. Cut the 10-15 cm sea buckthorn branches filled with berries, and then put them in the freezer. Frozen sea buckthorn berries come off the branches very easily, with a simple shake.
Dry the berries in shaded places, away from moisture, in a very thin layer (ideally they should not touch each other). The drying process is quite long, taking about 1-3 weeks, and it is done when the pulp of the berries is completely dehydrated and slightly brittle, breaking easily when cutting the berries with a knife. Do not dry the sea buckthorn berries in the oven, as heat drying contributes to the inactivation of an enzyme – ascorbinase – which, after harvesting, destroys vitamin C in the berries. After drying, keep the sea buckthorns in gauze bags, or paper bags, and store them in the dark, in dry places.
How to Make Sea Buckthorn Decoction
Boil 2 teaspoons of coarsely chopped sea buckthorn berries over low heat for about 15 minutes in 500 ml (2 cups) of water, preferably in a stainless steel or enameled saucepan. At the end, supplement with water to make for the evaporated water, so you have 2 cups of decoction. Strain while hot through a piece of gauze moistened in a little water. Sweeten the sea buckthorn decoction with raw honey to taste.

You can enjoy 2 cups of sea buckthorn decoction twice a day, as this is a natural remedy for the following health problems:
